Gerry Gibb began his working career in 1971 in aviation as an Aircraft Technician with the Royal Air Force before pursuing a civilian aviation career on both rotary and fixed wing aircraft working in the U.K, Canada, Indonesia, Oman and finally Australia. He has held several engineering management and aviation advisory roles. In 1999 Gerry developed ICAM, Incident Cause Analysis Method, based on the work of Professor James Reason and adopted worldwide by BHP Billiton for all major incident investigations. Gerry has been instrumental in the rollout of ICAM and training of BHP Billiton safety professionals, operational staff and contractors in the use of ICAM. On leaving BHP Billiton, Gerry set up Safety Wise Solutions based in Melbourne, Australia that provides Occupational Health & Safety consulting and training services. Safety Wise Solutions works with organisations to develop and implement effective and sustainable improvements in Occupational Health and Safety performance and risk management. To date Safety Wise Solutions has trained over 8000 people in ICAM and safety related disciplines. Gerry has had considerable experience in major accident and incident investigations in the aviation, rail, road transport, mining, and petroleum sectors and has been the lead analyst on several fatal accident investigations. Gerry holds ISO 9000 and AS4801 lead auditor status and is a certified assessor and workplace trainer. Gerry is a member of the Australian Aviation Psychology Association, Chartered Institute of Transport, Association of Licenced Aircraft Maintenance Engineers and the International Society of Air Safety Investigators.
